At the sixth annual regional Health Care Fraud Prevention Summit held in the University of Sciences (West Philadelphia) the most discussed theme was Medicare and Medicaid fraud.
Eric Holder told the forum that for last two years health care system has lost $8 billion just because of fraud. And now federal government is going to declare a war on people who are stealing taxpayers’ money.
Kathleen Sebelius, Health and Human Services secretary, said that the new system, based on high tech algorithms, would predict fraud by patterns. It will help preventing illegal Medicare claims to be paid.
Also Sebelius said: “So just in nine days in one geographic area, we identified 20 providers who were the potentially the worst of the worst. They, in and of themselves, just in this one area, accounted for about 30 million dollars in annual Medicare claims. This initiative will be up and running nationwide in about two weeks.”
