Performing Arts Season At Longwood Gardens

“Extraordinary. No word better describes the upcoming performing arts season at Longwood Gardens. We welcome not only a stellar lineup of

performers whose unique artistry will inspire and delight, but also welcome back a treasured friend: the Longwood Organ.

This magnificent instrument, one of the largest residential organs in the world, has not been heard in full voice since 2000. A meticulous restoration is complete, returning the historic 10,010-pipe Aeolian organ to its original 1930 condition. The restoration incorporates cutting-edge technologies, just as Longwood Founder Pierre S. du Pont did when building Longwood’s first pipe organ and many of the Gardens’ other remarkable features. To mark the return of this symphonic gem, we begin a year celebrating the sounds of music throughout the Gardens. A Debut Concert February 4 with renowned organist Peter Richard Conte is planned. In addition, a new organ recital series will welcome the highly acclaimed Hector Olivera (March 4) and the “Maverick Organist” Cameron Carpenter (May 13).

Whether it is classical, jazz, dance, theater or family-friendly entertainment, we are committed to continuing the longstanding tradition of the arts at

Longwood Gardens. We think Mr. du Pont would be very pleased that the sound of the organ will once again fill the Conservatory, but most of all,

that the performing arts remain an integral part of the Longwood Gardens experience.”
