Valentine’s Day 2013 In Philadelphia

When Valentine’s Day comes in Philadelphia, we need something special and romantic. And? The City has plenty of great options:

A chocolate tour

On Thursday, February 14, 2013, you can choose a chocolate tour, which begins at 12:45 pm. and run until 2:30 pm! Chocolate is romantic any day of the year, and on Valentine’s Day in addition to sampling extra special treats for the season, you’ll learn facts about why people have linked chocolate and romance throughout history and which famous royals believed in chocolate’s aphrodisiac powers! $40 per person for the Philadelphia Chocolate Tour (www.philadelphiachocolatetours.com/tours-and-schedules/).

Blue Cross River Rink at Penn’s Landing

For the active couple or young at heart, the Blue Cross River Rink at Penn’s Landing brings you the Sweetheart Skate from 6:00-9:00pm on February 14th. B101 and CW Philly will be entertaining skaters with a variety of games and prizes while the DJ spins your favorite love songs to propel you around the rink.   Your $20 ticket includes ice time, skate rental, a complimentary red flower for ladies (while supplies last), chocolate treats and a sweetheart photo keepsake. To purchase tickets in advance call (215) 923-6533 or email riverrink@delawareriverwaterfrontcorp.com.

Love Park

Those in search of lovely public art can steal a kiss in front of Philly’s swoon-worthy structures. Robert Indiana’s 1976 Love sculpture has become such an icon that its location, JFK Plaza, is now better known as Love Park. And while the 45-foot-tall steel Clothespin across from City Hall resembles a giant—well, clothespin—artist Claes Oldenburg compared the form to Constantin Brancusi’s The Kiss, which shows two separate bodies joined in an embrace.

Also a free photo op is available at Philadelphia’s LOVE Park. The Center City plaza houses a colorful fountain and Robert Indiana’s famous sculpture of big block letters that spell out the word “Love.”

Share a kiss

Qdoba restaurants are offering a buy one free one free deal. If you buy one entree at Qdoba on Valentine’s Day and share a kiss with someone, you’ll get another entree for free. The BOGO for a Kiss bargain is valid when you kiss your significant other, family member, friend or an “understanding stranger.” All you have to do is bring your lips.

Love stories throughout the prison’s history

Philadelphia’s Eastern State Penitentiary is offering buy one get one free admission on Valentine’s Day. According to the ESP website, the Day tour focuses on love stories throughout the prison’s history. This offer can only be redeemed online by using promo code BALLANDCHAIN.

Street Corner Symphony

Street Corner Symphony is a contemporary a cappella group based out of Nashville, Tennessee, founded on 28 May 2010 to compete in NBC’s all-vocal competition, The Sing-Off. They became internationally known in 2010 when they became runners-up on the show’s second season. These southern gents quickly won over Sing-Off judges Ben Folds (Ben Folds Five), Shawn Stockman (Boyz II Men), and Nicole Scherzinger (The Pussycat Dolls), and–most importantly–millions of NBC primetime viewers after demonstrating their unique, laid-back-yet-dynamic style of a cappella. Since their success on The Sing-Off, Street Corner Symphony has made their mark on the music world, recording albums, providing clinics for schools, giving benefits for cancer, performing across the country and around the world, and even working with major artists including Ben Folds, Alison Krauss, and Take 6’s Claude McKnight.
