US Airways and other major domestic airlines are increasing fares by adding a $20 surcharge to round trips for most domestic flights, according to commercial aviation price watcher Farecompare.com.
United Airlines and Continental Airlines added a $10 one-way ‘peak travel day’ surcharge for the majority of their domestic routes, says the Memphis Business Journal quoting Farcompare’s Graeme Wallace.
American Airlines launched a $20 roundtrip airfare hike for the bulk of its domestic routes. That hike was soon matched by Delta Air Lines
On Wednesday, the Star-Telegram in Fort Worth, Texas, reported that US Airways (NYSE:LCC), the dominant carrier at Philadelphia International Airport and Alaska Airways followed suit, again quoting Farecompare. Southwest, Jet Blue and AirTran have yet to follow suit.
