Campus Apartments L.L.C. broke ground at 4109 Walnut St. in Philadelphia. The hotel will feature 136 extended-stay suites, averaging 500 square feet. Hotel amenities will include a free shuttle to area facilities.
$50 million Homewood Suites by Hilton in University City, catering to medical professionals, patients, and their families who are planning to stay for a while.
Each of the suites in the hotel will have a full kitchen and one bedroom and average of 500 square feet of space.
Additional amenities include a fitness center, and an indoor pool.
Campus Apartments in Philadelphia is the developer, who will employ about 300 people, including construction workers.
This company manages about $1 billion worth of properties and 27,000 beds in 26 states. It has a working relationship with the University of Pennsylvania dating to 2000.
That’s why Penn approached it.
The work will be done in two phases. A second phase of the development will include a 150,000-square-foot office building at 3600 Sansom St., the Hilton Inn at Penn will undergo a $10 million renovation to update its 238 guest rooms and suites, to be completed in March.
Upgrades will include in-room Apple iPads, energy-saving technology, ergonomic chairs, chaise lounges and “spa-like” bathrooms.
