Ivan Pravilov, a 48-year-old Ukrainian, who operated the Unique Hockey School, was arrested on charges that he sexually assaulted two 14-year-old hockey players, FOX News reported.
The Unique Hockey School directed practice sessions at the rink, located in Elkins Park. Members of Pravilov’s program, also known as Druzhba ’78.
Federal court documents said, that two 14-year-old boys ” reported identical accounts of the night of Jan. 3 after they were transported by Pravilov from Delaware to Pennsylvania”. Pravilov, while staying at an apartment, placed his hand on one of the boys’ genitals, the documents said.
Following an investigation by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, the U.S. Attorney’s Office filed charges alleging that Pravilov transported minors across the state lines for illicit sexual conduct.
The allegations made the hockey world recoil, they “also a shock to Dainius Zubrus of the New Jersey Devils, who was a student of Pravilov’s in Ukraine from 1990-96, yahoo news.com said. From the Newark Star-Ledger:
“I know the man real well,” Zubrus told The Star-Ledger today. “I still keep in touch with him. It’s disappointing. Obviously I never thought in my head he’d ever be accused of something like that. But there is a lot of stuff going on back in the Ukraine. He has a lot of enemies there. I’m sure the truth will come out.”
