HIAS Pennsylvania is bringing New York City’s Houses on the Moon Theatre Company to the Walnut Street Theatre’s Studio 5 on December 8 and 9.
This ia the incredible story “De Novo”, written and directed by Jeffrey Solomon. The play follows the story of a Guatemalan boy who comes to the United States seeking escape from the gangs in his home. Shortly after arriving here, he is put into deportation.
The play follows his trials as he crosses the borders of three countries by himself in search of his mother. Using the words of his pro bono immigration lawyer, court transcripts and letters, De Novo highlights the challenges faced by immigrants and the failures of our immigration system. The play follows his story through the United States immigration system and its consquences.
Panelists will discuss the role of youth immigrants in our current immigration system. Speakers will include members of the cast, HIAS Pennsylvania Unaccompanied Minors Program Director Liz Yaeger and Lesly Flores, one of her clients.
