The Strawbridge and Wanamaker have been famous stores in King of Prussia Mall during long time. But they disappeared as department stores consolidated over the last two decades.
And the Plaza is paving the way for the redevelopment of retail space adjacent to it. The Wanamaker store at the Plazawill become the site of a two-story, 122,790-square-foot new building, officials said to CBS News.
“We’ve had a strong leasing year and want to continue to offer the kind of space that popular retailers and restaurants desire,” general manager Bob Hart said in a news release. “Redeveloping this corridor enables us to attract highly sought-after retailers looking for larger spaces in prime markets.”
Work is expected to continue through the fall of 2012, spokeswoman Lindsay Thompson said.
King of Prussia, with three million square feet of retail space, is considered the largest retail center in the country, Thompson said.
The news follows the recent completion of a renovation project at King of Prussia Mall of its Plaza Food Court.
