The last decade or so has brought us a slew of fabulous new inventions. There’s DVR, which lets you pause live TV. There was the invention of the iPad which led to people camping outside of their local Apple stores for 48 hours. But my favorite? A little known secret: Rent The Runway.
Renttherunway.com is a site designed for those who want an outfit for a special occasion but do not want to spend the full price for that outfit. One literally… rents the runway. High-end designers showcase their collections on the site, and once becoming a member (membership is free), you take an online profile quiz so the site’s creators know your general style. After that, you get emails when something they think you may like comes in.
You can also go on the site before a special occasion and, as example, proceed as follows: wedding, guest, summer, blue pink black or purple, size 6, Ralph Lauren. You put in your favorite brands, colors, and sizes, and the site processes what’s available. If a high-end dress is $1,000, you can “rent” it for $150. The price varies depending on how long you need to rent it for. Even if you don’t plan on using this website for renting, at least take the fashion portfolio quiz. It’s like having a personal stylist email you a few times a week with a style you may like. If you love it, you can buy it.
If you’re curious, you can rent it. And if neither is affordable, you can find a knockoff version. There’s nothing to lose. Check out renttherunway.com. If Paris Hilton can have 17 personal stylists, you deserve at least one!
