Rep. John Taylor (R-Philadelphia) is currently seeking student applicants from the 177th District to participate in the Valley Forge Military College Legislative Appointment Initiative.
“This program gives students who want to attend one of the most esteemed military colleges in the country the opportunity to receive scholarships to Valley Forge Military College,” Taylor said. “This special program is available to all qualifying students, not only those seeking a career in the military.”
Each legislative appointee will receive an annual scholarship to attend the military college. These are not state funds, but scholarships provided by the Valley Forge Military College. The school can also help those who need additional financial aid. The full amount awarded depends upon the academic achievement of the student selected. The minimum annual award is $12,000 for a high school GPA of 2.5, rising to an annual award of $17,500 for a high school GPA of 3.75.
Eligible students must have a minimum SAT score of 1,000 or a 21 on the ACT, and an overall high school GPA of 2.5. Candidates should also exhibit involvement in sports or other extracurricular activities, demonstrate leadership potential and be service-oriented.
The college offers an Army ROTC Early Commissioning Program as well as a transfer program to top-tier, four-year colleges and universities throughout the country.
Students can apply at any time during the fall semester of their senior year until Feb. 15 for enrollment the following fall.
