Wawa Welcome America! Begins with Reading … and the Runway!

Wawa Welcome America! will begin today with the first installment of its popular Go 4th & Learn series of free, educational and interactive sessions for kids. The first Go 4th and Learn will be Go 4th & Learn About History, an outdoor event in kid-friendly Franklin Square where Mayor Michael A. Nutter, Wawa CEO Howard Stoeckel, Wawa President Chris Gheysens, and City Representative and Executive Director of Wawa Welcome America! Melanie Johnson will read to the children. Children will not only learn about the history of America’sbirthplace, they’ll also learn about the history of dairy from Wawa. The day will include lessons in cow milking, and children will have the opportunity to take photos with a milkmaid, create make-and-take crafts, enjoy face painting and more. The first 200 kids to attend the event will receive the book “Apples” by Jacqueline Farmer.

In the evening, families and fashionistas alike will head to Rittenhouse Square for “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Fashion” a unique fashion show produced by 90degreez. Be sure to grab a bite to eat at local restaurants around the Square.

Following the fashion celebration, the Wawa Welcome America! Philly @ the Movies series will kick-off with its first free outdoor movie of the festival, “The Great Gatsby”, starring Robert Redford and Mia Farrow.
